Shared Service Centres

Tasmania has remained one of the leading states in Australia for ‘shared service centres’ – a centre where a range of functions such as customer service, payroll or accountancy can be delivered on behalf of a company or companies.

For many decades Tasmania has excelled in this sector, offering businesses a competitive and affordable commercial property market, as well as several significant labour advantages including lower average cost of labour, lower attrition rates and a high availability of clerical and administrative staff. In more recent years, Tasmania’s abundance of low-cost clean, green energy has enticed companies looking to advance their corporate sustainability agenda, which has been coupled with increased access to high-speed Fibre-to-the-Premises NBN and the rollout of 5G.

The Covid-19 pandemic had the effect of closing many international contact centres, especially those located in the Philippines and Bangladesh. As a result, Tasmania has seen a surge in interest from Australian proponents looking to re-shore their centres, access a skilled and loyal workforce and increase their operational resilience.
