Northern wellness opportunity EOI

Northern Tasmania is home to some of the state’s most spectacular landscapes, including forests, rugged mountains, and sweeping coastlines, as well as rich agricultural areas producing fine foods and internationally-renowned wines.

With all this close to Launceston Airport and easily accessible from the Devonport terminal of the new Spirit of Tasmania Bass Strait ferries, Tasmania’s north is a visitor’s paradise, with world-class dining and recreational opportunities.

As part of the Tasmanian Government's commitment to delivering the Northern Economic Plan, the Office of the Coordinator-General is conducting an Expressions of Interest (EOI) process to identify and attract private sector proposals for the development of a significant wellness precinct or wellness experience in Northern Tasmania.

This opportunity is intended to capitalise on Tasmania's strong reputation for nature-based experiences, and recognises that Northern Tasmania is particularly well placed to benefit from the growing wellness tourism market, supported by the region's natural assets, clean environment and established tourism appeal.

From 1 November 2026 to 31 January 2027 potential proponents have the opportunity to discuss their ideas for a wellness precinct development with the Office of the Coordinator-General.

Because there are a number of potential sites – including greenfield sites and locations that already have some development – this is intended to be a flexible process, allowing a proponent’s skills, experience and vision to be matched with the most suitable sites. It also provides an opportunity for partnerships to be created for the development of a more extensive offering.

Proponents should consider development proposals that demonstrate the potential to:

  • Deliver high-quality nature-based, wellness and premium tourism experiences
  • Grow visitation and visitor expenditure in Northern Tasmania;
  • Create employment and private sector investment;
  • Strengthen Tasmania's position as a leading wellness destination.
